Civil & Structural Engineering
Established in the year 1978 DST - FIST Sponsored Department through which the department got a funding of Rs. 110 lakhs.
MoU with CSIR - Structural Engineering Research Centre, Chennai for collaborative Research. Through this wind speed monitoring tower with anemometers was established at a cost of Rs. 10 lakhs at Faculty of Marine Science, Parangipettai.
The Department is pioneer in introducing new PG Programmes. The Department introduced M.E structural Engineering in the year 1953 and M.E. Disaster Management and Engineering in the year 2007 first time in the country.
The department has a large test floor facility which is a unique facility with which one can conduct any type of structural testing in the laboratory.
The department has the largest steam curing chambers among the educational institutions, with which one can prepare large concrete specimens for testing.
The department and the university is the 3 rd institution in South India to introduce Earthquake Engineering laboratory in the undergraduate curriculum.
The department has accessed funds to the tune of Rs. 4.0 Crores from various funding agencies like UGC, DST, AICTE, Ministry of Agriculture, TNSCST, etc.
The department has developed new and innovative materials for construction, viz: Paddy husk Cement (1982) and Geopolymer Concrete (2013).
An active Institute -Industry interaction has been established through consultancy to Government and Private Organisation

CUBE CONTEST

Maximum of three participants are allowed in a team.

Each team should bring 3 cubes. 150mmx150mmx150mm cube.
Cement should be a binder content.
No admixtures
Artificial and natural aggregates to be used.
Density should be 1200 to 1800 kg/m3
Air content must be the below 2% or equal to the 2 %.
The cube has to be cast 3rd day prior to the event.
The frog which is to be provided in the cube will be informed by theorganizers in the 3rd day (18.03.2018)
Report will be submitted by 21/03/2018.Day on the event .
The results will be based on dimensions, density, strength and materials used.
Judging criteria:
Density -50%
Compression strength-25%
Dimensions and edges-15%
Report -10%
The event will be technical.
Maximum of two members per team.
Rules will be given at the spot.

Events and Rules:
Each paper should consist of two authors only (maximum).
The participants are required to send their abstracts on or before 13.03.2018 to stress2k18@gmail.com
The abstract should be brief, précised and in IEEE format.
The participants are required to send their name,college name, contact number and mail ID along with their abstracts.
Selected candidates will be intimated through E-mail.
The selected candidates have to present for 6 min and will have a discussion for 2 min. total of 8mins duration.
The presentation should be in .ppt
Decision of judges will be the final

Preliminary round will be MCQ’s regarding to auto CAD.
The final round will be drawing using auto CAD in a limited time.
The competitors should participate in this event individually.
